Clear Braces
Do you need the effectiveness of traditional braces but want the discretion that comes with clear aligners? If so, you should consider clear braces. Clear braces can correct overbites, underbites, crowding, and crookedness like metal braces. However, they are far less noticeable.
When you schedule a consultation at Alamo City Orthodontics, Dr. Roy Gonzalez, Jr. can help answer your questions about orthodontics, work with your insurance provider, offer a transparent clear braces cost, and help you achieve a straighter smile.
Clear Braces Defined
Clear braces, also called ceramic braces, use similar basic mechanisms as metal braces with one key difference: instead of stainless steel, the brackets of clear braces are made from a transparent ceramic composite. This allows the braces to blend in with teeth, providing a more appealing appearance. While clear braces are slightly more fragile than metal braces, they are just as effective.
The Treatment Process
At your first appointment, Dr. Gonzalez will take x-rays, examine your smile, and discuss your health history to guide treatment decisions. If our orthodontist deems traditional braces as the most appropriate orthodontic treatment for your situation, he will go over clear braces cost, duration of treatment, and other treatment expectations.
Our San Antonio orthodontist will bond transparent ceramic brackets to the front surfaces of the teeth with dental cement. After the ceramic brackets are placed, Dr. Gonzalez will string the tooth-colored wire through them and anchor it with metal bands on the back molars. Afterward, he will secure the wires in place with clear elastics. Generally, a skilled orthodontist takes about one to two hours to place clear braces.
When patients choose clear braces for teeth, they can expect frequent check-ins at our San Antonio orthodontist office throughout orthodontic treatment to ensure that every component of your clear braces is working and appropriately attached.
FAQ
Compared to traditional metal braces, the clear elastic that bands each bracket is prone to staining. Therefore, to reduce discoloration, we suggest the following:
- Scheduling regular dental cleanings and orthodontist office visits
- Avoiding smoking and tobacco use
- Avoiding dark-colored, staining food and drinks (like coffee, red wine, and tomato sauce)
Since the brackets on traditional clear braces are fragile, we strongly suggest being careful with them. For these reasons, we suggest enjoying plenty of soft foods, like rice, soft bread, lunch meats, and cooked vegetables. On the other hand, avoid hard, crunchy, sticky, and staining foods to maximize longevity.
